The Carola Bridge spans the Elbe with a total length of about 350 metres. Prominent buildings at the bridgehead are the New Synagogue on the Altstädter side; on the Neustädter Ufer, the Carolaplatz is directly adjacent to Dresden's government quarter.
The new bridge, which had to be rebuilt after it was destroyed in the Second World War, is now crossed by the B 170 trunk road. More than 50,000 vehicles use the bridge every day.
Today, the Carola Bridge is a reinforced concrete bridge supported by a pier in the middle.
