Albertplatz is the central square of Dresden's Neustadt. It was laid out as "Bautzner Platz" after the demolition of the fortress walls around the Neustadt and the demolition of the Bautzner Tor from 1817 onwards according to plans by Gottlob Friedrich Thormeyer. The most important traffic routes of the New Town met in a star shape on this square. Since 1994, both circular fountains can be admired again on Albertplatz. Prominent buildings on Albertplatz are Villa Eschebach (now a bank building), built in 1901, and the "Hochhaus am Albertplatz" (high-rise building on Albertplatz), which was designed by Hermann Paulick in 1929 as Dresden's first high-rise building on behalf of the Sächsische Staatsbank.
Transport connection: tram 3, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13 till Albertplatz
