The Dresdner Heide is considered one of the largest recreational areas for the people of Dresden. It is a 50-square-kilometre wooded area in the north-east of the city and occupies about 21 per cent of the city area. In 1950, the Heide was incorporated into Dresden and is now part of the Loschwitz district. Originally, the Heide was significantly larger and formed a closed forest area with the Moritzburg Friedewald, the Laußnitz Heide and the Karswald. The highest elevation of the forest area is the 280.5 metre high Dachsenberg. Numerous small bodies of water flow through the heath. In 1969, the Dresdner Heide was declared a protected landscape area.
| Transport connection: | bus 305 till Dresden Heidemühle stop – starting point for hiking, cycling or jogging tram 7 and bus 70, 72, 80 till Zur Neuen Brücke or S-Bahn S2 till Bahnhof Klotzsche, then walk (approx. 15 minutes) to the Dresdner Heide Climbing Forest. |
