Today, the world's oldest mountain suspension railway is just as much a technical masterpiece as it was when it was built, but it is also an almost irreplaceable means of transport. At a leisurely 1.5 m/s, the suspension railway makes its way up past 33 supports. When the doors open as you get off, you are rewarded with a fantastic view of Dresden.

Due to the economic boom in the Dresden suburbs of Loschwitz and Oberloschwitz at the time, a transport link became urgently necessary at the end of the 19th century. Thus the idea for a suspension railway was born, also resulting from the success of the neighbouring funicular railway. The ceremonial opening took place on 6 May 1901 in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Friedrich August. The temporary end came in 1984; partly due to the economic situation in the former GDR. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the suspension railway was reopened in 1991.
